Dr Karina Pleitgen DClinPsy MSc BSc (Hons) I am a clinical psychologist registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have worked in the NHS in secondary care and specialist services since 2011. I also have experience in third sector charity organizations that offer psychological therapies to refugees and asylum seekers. I currently work in a specialist psychotherapy service within the NHS that supports people with severe and enduring needs. I offer treatment for a wide range of psychological difficulties; however, I am particularly passionate about working with survivors of trauma and its psychological aftermath. In my current and prior roles I worked with diverse client groups, including survivors of torture and human rights violations, rape, sexual assault and domestic violence, childhood abuse, war-related experiences, as well as accidents and injuries. The initial assessment is an opportunity to develop a shared understanding of your difficulties in the context of your life experiences, your background and your current circumstances. This allows us to collaboratively develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs and aims to help you make meaningful changes. In my practice I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET). I also draw on principles of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as narrative and systemic approaches. I see clients in my consulting rooms in East Dulwich.
